Foster Alumni Mentors (FAM) host two signature events each year—the FAMpoint5k and the Starfish Gala (formerly known as Sun, Sips and Scholarships)—and each is a blast!

Starfish Gala

In 2022, FAM hosted our first Sun, Sips and Scholarships event, to support our Members’ pursuit of educational and career goals and to contribute to our Sylvia Aynn Richards Memorial Scholarship for Colorado Mesa University students. Since inception, the event has raised over $35,000. Now, FAM is switching gears to host a bit more formal event, the Starfish Gala, which will still focus on supporting educational pursuits, as well as overall programming. The event occurs during the Spring or early Summer.

FAMpoint5k

We loved the idea and accessibility of a “race for the rest of us” and started hosting our 0.5k walk/run (about 1/3 of a mile) in 2018, adorned with funny course signs and a donut station at the halfway mark. We’ve since expanded the event to include both a 0.5K and a 5K, and have had over 125 participants, including many in costume (#dinosaursforFAM).
